Take the ACT

- register on line for the ACT at actstudent.org (make sure to list the college(s) that you plan to attend so that your ACT scores will be sent)

- attend an ACT workshop – Friday, October 14 - Osceola

 

Make a Resume

- very important when applying for scholarships

- See attached examples

 

Obtain Reference Letters

- ask teachers, coaches, employers, and other adults who know you well for letters of recommendation for scholarship and admission applications

 

Visit Colleges

- make arrangements through Mrs. Hudson in advance of the visit (bring back proof of your visit from the admission’s office)

- meet with college representatives that visit our school

- attend College Fair at NHS Thursday, October 6

 

Apply to Colleges

- applications available on-line at the college/university(s) website (submitting applications sometimes requires a fee; Upward Bound participants can sometimes have these fees waived)

- ask Mrs. Naas to send your transcript to college(s)

- Goal: apply and have an acceptance letter by Thanksgiving – maybe even Halloween??

 

Complete the FAFSA

- www.fafsa.gov

- attend a FAFSA information night at NEVC or at your chosen college/university (usually in January or February)

- tell parents to have their taxes as early as possible (some scholarships require information obtained from tax returns)

- deadline April 1 (submit as soon as possible after January 1)

- look for your Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail or in your email.

- contact the financial aid office at the college of your choice

 

Apply for Scholarships

- www.nevcknights.org under guidance

- college departmental/academic scholarships have deadlines as early as December 1

- watch for award letters in the mail

- write thank you letters to the people who wrote recommendation letters and to the scholarship donors

 

Housing application?? Work study?? Look for a job?? Apply for a loan??  Find a roommate??  Apartment??
